How To Dress For New York City: Get Lauryn’s Elevated NYC Look
How do you see color when packing for travel vs. everyday life?
IS: Color plays a huge role when selecting looks for an upcoming trip. When shopping for a client, I always take into consideration the most suitable color palette for their skin tone, as well as what colors work best for certain events.
When packing a client for a trip, I first check the weather of their destination, as this really determines how we pack. Is the destination somewhere tropical? Nautical? Maybe it’s more of a cozy vibe. It all depends on the destination and the weather.
Most clients have their favorite colors and I will always try to incorporate this into our looks. For instance, if the client loves darker colors and is traveling somewhere hot, I will include options such as black, brown or navy swimwear, black or navy sheer cover ups, flowy bottoms and darker shades of linen.
How do Lauryn’s personality, career, and schedule influence your choices?
IS: Personality plays so much into how I dress my clients; it’s always something I first consider when selecting items. Lauryn has a very classic, chic, effortless style and I will always stay true to that.
I like to add interesting pieces here and there, whether it be a handbag or unique pair of sunglasses. We try to stay classic, monochromatic, simple but tailored to perfection, sleek and modern. Lauryn has a crazy schedule; she’s often traveling and likes things to be easy when it comes to unpacking. We always select looks beforehand and have them labeled and ready for each day and night.
What’s the mindset on dressing for a specific location, specifically NYC?
IS: Location really sets the scene when we are planning looks for an upcoming trip. Since Lauryn is traveling to NY and it’s spring, we are packing lots of neutrals with color -blocking pops of color, as well as navy and black suiting.
She has a few press-related events that we have planned out, but I always pack looks for downtime as well, whether it be activewear or leisure. It’s always a good idea to pack a couple of looks you can run down to grab a coffee in, or something chic to throw on to go shopping.
Dressing for New York is ultimately about mastering the art of the transition. The city is the ultimate stage, and in the spring the vibe is all about renewed energy and ‘moving’ elegance.
Our mindset for this trip is ‘perfect tailoring and effortless edge’ focusing on light suiting that can be broken down into separates to give her maximum versatility.
